Topics in Percolation

چکیده
Percolation is the study of connectedness in a randomly-chosen subset of an infinite graph. Following Grimmett[4], we set up percolation on a square lattice. We establish the existence of a critical edge-density, prove several results about the behavior of percolation systems above and below this critical density, and use these results to find the critical density of percolation on the two-dimensional square lattice.

A mini course on percolation theory
These are lecture notes based on a mini course on percolation which was given at the Jyväskylä summer school in mathematics in Jyväskylä, Finland, August 2009. The point of the course was to try to touch on a number of different topics in percolation in order to give people some feel for the field. These notes follow fairly closely the lectures given in the summer school. However, some topics c...
متن کاملTheory of continuum percolation. I. General formalism.
The theoretical basis of continuum percolation has changed greatly since its beginning as little more than an analogy with lattice systems. Nevertheless, there is yet no comprehensive theory of this field. A basis for such a theory is provided here with the introduction of the Potts fluid, a system of interacting s-state spins which are free to move in the continuum. In the s → 1 limit, the Pot...
متن کاملPrecise determination of the void percolation threshold for two distributions of overlapping spheres
The void percolation threshold is calculated for a distribution of overlapping spheres with equal radii, and for a binary-sized distribution of overlapping spheres, where half of the spheres have radii twice as large as the other half. Using systems much larger than previous work, we determine a much more precise value for the percolation thresholds and correlation length exponent. The value of...
متن کاملExact solution of site and bond percolation on small-world networks.
We study percolation on small-world networks, which has been proposed as a simple model of the propagation of disease. The occupation probabilities of sites and bonds correspond to the susceptibility of individuals to the disease, and the transmissibility of the disease respectively. We give an exact solution of the model for both site and bond percolation, including the position of the percola...
متن کاملTheory of continuum percolation. II. Mean field theory.
I use a previously introduced mapping between the continuum percolation model and the Potts fluid to derive a mean field theory of continuum percolation systems. This is done by introducing a new variational principle, the basis of which has to be taken, for now, as heuristic. The critical exponents obtained are β = 1, γ = 1 and ν = 0.5, which are identical with the mean field exponents of latt...
